How to improve colour accuracy in AI fashion images
Reduce avoidable colour mismatch by sharing neutral product photos, useful notes and a clear review process for AI-generated fashion visuals.

Build accuracy into the reference and review
Photograph the item in even, neutral light. Avoid warm bulbs, coloured walls reflecting onto the garment and filters that tint the fabric. If exact colour is important, include more than one view and preserve the original image file.
Name the main colour and any secondary colours, pattern or trim. Explain which details should remain unchanged. If a garment has colour-block panels or contrast stitching, call them out and include a close-up.
Compare the output side by side with your source photo. Check colour, print placement, silhouette, closures and visible trim. AI-generated images may introduce small errors; use a real detail photo where shoppers need to inspect texture or construction.
Put the guidance into practice
For a pale pink cardigan, include a neutral-light source photo and a note distinguishing the cardigan from a white inner layer. When reviewing, compare those areas together and mark the exact panel that shifted. A general comment such as “the colour feels off” offers less direction for a focused correction.
Before you publish
- Use neutral, even lighting for source images.
- Describe approved colours and contrast details.
- Provide close-ups for small patterns and trims.
- Compare generated images before publishing.
Frequently asked question
Can an AI image guarantee an exact fabric colour?
